What a great night for hockey. Team is sold. Mario celebrates his birthday as the Pens fans celebrate his career and the players beat the cross-state rival Flyers 4-0.

I arrived at 6pm as gates opened (90 minutes before faceoff) and went directly to my seat. Sat back and took in the atmosphere. I was the only one in my level while others started filtering in. I read my Ice Time magazine and waited until showtime. There was an emotional tribute to Mario and a highlight film of the Penguins followed by the singing of the national anthem by Clarks front man Scott Blasey.

Once the drop of the puck Philly showed it didnt deserve to be on the ice. No chemistry with their team this year, gooning it up to try and shake the young pens (which didnt work) and an over lack of hockey fundamentals. Philly is done this season if they continue like this (yeah i know it’s only the 1st game). On the other side the Pens played the best hockey I’ve seen since before the 04-05 lockout. Everything was in synch. Defense was stellar (at least 10 killed penalties) and offense actually looked respectable with Sid Crosby leading the way. This Rutuu kid is going to be fun to watch this season along with Letang. Staal needs some work on his wrister and Armstrong may very well be my new favorite player. Please Pens… dont let me down.
